Chinese Academy of Sciences is the highest institution and the center for comprehensive research and development of natural sciences. It covers 65 research institutes predominantly for the basic natural sciences. Colleges and universities Under the guidance of Deng Xiaoping's thought regarding that the institution of higher learning is not only the educational center, but also the scientific research center, scientific researches in institutions of higher learning develop at full speed. At present, there are 757 colleges and universities engaged in scientific and technological researches, forming a relatively complete system for the basic scientific research of multiple subjects, making important contributions in advancing science and technology to serve the economy, developing science and technology and training the special high-level talents. Colleges and universities, which have concentrated 1/3 funds of the basic research of the whole country and a great number of human resources for the basic research, will play a more and more important role in the basic research in China.
